Chief Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to manage the accounting and reporting activities of a portfolio of Bulgarian and international clients.

The ideal candidate has previous experience in an accounting firm, has independently handled year-end closing, and has practical experience preparing financial statements under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the complete accounting cycle for an assigned client portfolio, following applicable accounting standards and internal procedures.
Carry out monthly closing activities, reconcile accounts, and ensure the accuracy of accounting records.
Independently perform year-end closing and prepare the associated financial and tax documentation.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Bulgarian National Accounting Standards and IFRS.
Prepare annual financial reports, financial analyses, and forecasts.
Prepare and submit annual tax returns, VAT returns, and Intrastat declarations for the assigned clients.
Produce statutory reports and supporting documentation in compliance with Bulgarian accounting and tax requirements.
Prepare and administer contracts with clients’ business counterparties.
Communicate with external auditors, tax authorities, and other regulatory bodies on behalf of clients.

REQUIREMENTS

At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including experience working in an accounting firm.
Proven experience independently completing year-end closing.
Practical experience applying IFRS and preparing financial statements under international standards.
Excellent knowledge of Bulgarian accounting and tax legislation.
University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Previous education at a secondary school specialising in economics would be considered an advantage.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet reporting and statutory deadlines.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work across several clients.
Clear and effective communication with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
A collaborative approach and strong teamwork skills.
Fluent English, both written and spoken.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with Ajur accounting software would be considered an advantage.
Previous experience in an accounting firm is required.
