Lead Accounts Payable Specialist with German

Exceed is looking for an experienced Senior / Lead Accounts Payable Specialist with German on behalf of a partner company.

The position combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with the coordination and development of a small team. You will support daily accounts payable operations, ensure accurate financial records, and contribute to process improvements and finance digitalization initiatives within an international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely posting of supplier invoices, bank statements, and other accounts payable transactions.
  • Review and record travel expenses in accordance with internal policies.
  • Prepare and review accruals and general ledger entries to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly closing activities and financial reporting.
  • Support accounts receivable activities when required.
  • Guide and mentor junior accounting colleagues, supporting their professional development.
  • Coordinate team workloads and monitor the quality and timely completion of tasks.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex accounting questions and transaction issues.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve and standardize accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Support the implementation of a digital data room and a structured approach to financial documentation.
  • Contribute to automation and finance transformation projects.

Requirements

  • Completed vocational or higher education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, including a German Kaufmännische Ausbildung or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in accounting or finance, with substantial exposure to accounts payable.
  • Solid knowledge of bank postings, accruals, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience in month-end closing and financial reporting.
  • Fluency in German and English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong analytical skills, a structured approach, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively within an international team and support colleagues through practical guidance.
  • Strong interest in process improvement, automation, and finance digitalization.
